* HOW PHOTONIC PRODUCTS ARE BEING DEVELOPED
The photonic transistor has the physical ability to operate as the
foundation for a larger number of products than its electronic counterpart.
Unlike the late '40s, we today, have a well established body of computer
science, and manufacturing technology that was completely foreign to the
developers of electronic transistor products. What's more, today, there is
a large pool of talent, already having the basic tools needed for the
production of photonic transistor products based on the use of computer-
generated synthetic holograms.
Thus, there are two courses available for developing photonic
computing, series and parallel. The conventional series development would
gather (in house) a few talented people to develop photonics products one
at a time, using the fastest computer available.
The parallel course seems much more suited to the physical
requirements of photonic development, along with our desire to produce the
most products in the least amount of time. Instead of a few talented
people taking turns on a single big computer, parallel development would
put many talented people on an equal number of smaller computers. So, by
promoting cooperation and coordination of photonic developers having a wide
repertoire abilities, a very large variety of products are being developed
and marketed very quickly.
But how can each one be properly compensated? Simple, products
accepted for sale through out network, are sold in the conventional
manufacture-wholesaler-retailer manner. After a product has been developed,
the developer becomes the official "manufacturer" of that item even if the
physical product is actually constructed by the developer's subcontractor.
We provide information, coordination with other developers, and a
growing body of the latest tools, and photonics products to assist
all...and most importantly, a sales outlet for the products as they come
into existence.
Who will make the most money? It will be the ones that start
developing early, and produce the products that prove to be the most
popular in the marketplace.
* WHO IS QUALIFIED TO BE A PHOTONIC PRODUCT DEVELOPER
1. Do you have a computer available to you?
2. Do you have some ideas that can be turned into a product based on the
photonic transistor? It can be as simple as an educational photonic
transistor, or as complex as a fully photonic 3D video display.
3. Do you have some ideas for programming synthetic hologram development
tools that go beyond those presently available? Maybe you envision a
program set for a platform not presently supported, or one with higher
resolution, or greater production speed?
4. Do you have an idea for a service that can be made available to other
developers?
5. Do you simply have an interest in learning photonics from the ground
up, with hands on experience? That knowledge is quite capable of
kindling ones innovative enthusiasm that may lead to a wide variety of
photonic products.
* WHAT KIND OF PHYSICAL RESOURCES ARE NEEDED
Initially, one only needs access to an IBM PC, or compatible, having a
math coprocessor, and an EGA or VGA monitor. As the development process
proceeds, the needed physical resources depends on the product being
developed. Certainly, one will need what ever is required for testing the
product, to be sure that it operates properly. Where help is needed,
optional services will be available through the network, including
manufacturing help as the developer needs.
* WHAT FINANCIAL RESOURCES ARE NEEDED
The financial arrangement is organized so as to promote the most rapid
development of saleable products, thus, developmental costs must be kept at
a minimum. Since all products will be sold through our network, the real
money will come from through the sale of consumer products, not through a
hand full of development tools.
The minimum investment provides a 3-year, renewable R&D license to
make and test the patented photonic transistors within potential products.
Included is the entry-level synthetic hologram development package. (See *
DEVELOPMENT PACKAGE below.) Even if one is developing only software,
products must be tested, and will not be considered for inclusion in the
sales network from non-licensed persons. (See * PRODUCT PROTECTION below)
In time, some developers may wish to sell their developments to
others. Therefore, the R&D licenses contain provisions for transferring
ownership. As the value of such a license rises, and the numbers available
become more restricted, early licensees will be in a better position,
should they wish to take advantage of this provision.
The current development package and license is stated in file R&D.LIC.
Additional investment will depend upon the product being developed.
Before submitting them for evaluation, they must be operational, completely
tested, and well documented. A growing inventory of tools, and equipment
will be available through the network, however, items such a lasers and
general optical equipment need not be purchased through the network.
Consulting and other optional services are also available to help you
produce the best products in the least amount of time.
A minimum evaluation fee will be charged at the time of product
submission for inclusion in the sales network. That fee will vary from
product to product and will be based on an a pre-evaluation estimate of the
expected amount of time and resources that product will require for
testing.
Manufacturing costs will depend upon the actual product, and the in-
house resources the developer has available. The network will provide
information about available manufacturing services and venture capital
being offered by others.
By thus keeping development costs to a minimum, the developer will be
able to concentrate his resources on the real task producing saleable
products.
* DEVELOPMENT PACKAGE CONTENTS
The photonic transistor development package includes five
basic components.
1. 24 Programs for the production of standard image synthetic holograms
capable of producing complex working photonic transistor devices.
2. Photonic Transistor production manual.
3. 3 year, renewable, R&D license for protection and production of working
products.
4. Assembly language source code for the development of custom image
calculating and manipulation programs.
5. Development .OBJ files of hologram-related macro routines.
-- SYNTHETIC HOLOGRAM DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
A. Image Drawing for the production of desired input and
output images.
B. Input image to output image calculation from A side and B side.
Such images are used to produce the multiple combinations
of binary states represented by various input images states.
C. Make a hologram from a calculated image.
D. Perform boolean functions on single and double images.
NOT XOR AND NAND NOR OR for combining images capable of producing
specialized holograms, and fringe component separators
E. Orientation programs to rotate, flip, and coordinate-modify images.
F. Combine images through superposition to determine the image
that results when the input images to a holographic transistor
are on simultaneously.
G. Mathematical operations on images. NEGATE, CHANGE SIGN (PHASE.)
H. Dual-image VGA or EGA color display for R&D and production
of actual working photonic components.
I. Production of basic input images such as constant level
input, zero-level input, and single pixel inputs.
J. Convert images to and from standard PCX files to allow images to be
built, and modified using readily available CAD programs.
(See the file, HOW_TO.USE for a complete list of all development
programs.)
-- ASSEMBLY LANGUAGE PROGRAMS
Assembly language source code to allow the photonic product developer to
produce custom programs. Such programs have a three fold purpose:
1. For acquiring a greater understanding of photonic transistor software
development...so you will be able to easily produce more advanced
software beginning with this basic foundation.
2. Custom image calculations can be inserted directly into
source code shells for the rapid production of special photonic
effects.
3. For improving calculating methods capable of running much
faster. The calculation of a photonic image involves billions
of operations for a single image. In their basic form, that can
use up a lot of computer time. There are however many
redundancies that a clever programmer can take advantage of for
writing much faster programs.
-- THE PHOTONIC TRANSISTOR PRODUCTION MANUAL
A. How photonic transistors work.
B. How standardized hologram sets can be used to produce
photonic transistor devices.
C. How to use each of the IMAGE tools (programs) for making
holograms, fringe component separators for the production
of boolean functions, photonic signal amplification, analog
and digital image manipulation, and photonic component interfacing.
D. How synthetic holograms are produced.
E. How to produce functioning photonic transistors directly
from the holograms produced on your computer.
F. How to protect your intellectual property rights, as
related to the patented photonic transistor
* PRODUCT PROTECTION
The products you will produce using our Photonic Transistor Development
Package may have significant economic value. In order for your products to
be protected under the photonic transistor patents, you must become a
licensed developer before you begin developing. This license protects you
in many ways.
Patent law makes it illegal to MAKE, SELL, or USE any patented item
without permission of the patent's owners. Therefore, as a licensed
developer, you will be protected from unfair competition because our
patents will be rigorously enforced. And, we will not accept any duplicate
product for sale through the network.
That means, that anyone who makes, sells, or uses an unlicensed
product using the photonic transistor process or components not purchased
through the network is automatically guilty of patent infringement.
Because of the use requirements of the law, even their customers will be
the subject of prosecution for simply USING bootleg equipment. Unlike
copyright laws that are quite easy to circumvent, patent law does not
permit anyone to make a patented item even "for personal use." Patent
infringement is therefore quite enforceable, and carries considerable
economic clout.
Recent court examples give us considerable confidence in our ability
to protect licensed photonic transistor products. A number of years ago the
patents relating to the manufacture of video tape recorders were sold to
the Japanese. American manufactures have not been able to make even a
single video recorder, in spite of having considerable political pull.
Whether you agree with the Japanese position or not, it does make the point
that the owner of a patent has the right, under law, to determine who will
use the invention and who will not, and even the big boys have been unable
to circumvent the law.
Another example, in the field of optics, is the infamous contest
between Kodak and Polaroid over Kodak's instant camera. The court awarded
Polaroid a very large sum of money, and Kodak was required by Polaroid,
through the court, to stop all production. As a result every one of
Kodak's instant camera customers found himself with a worthless camera,
unable to buy film. Patent infringement can easily cost the infringer many
millions of dollars, and his reputation with every single potential
customer.
It is this, court enforced economic clout the law gives to a patent
holder that makes the difference between difficult to enforce copyrights
and effective patent law enforcement.
This works to your advantage because it means the products you
develope come under the same protection because you will be licensed under
our patents.
Economic clout also extends abroad to countries that do not respect
American patents. America is the largest market, as such it is the prime
plum for potential product sales. Since no one can sell in this market
without being a part of our network, they are unable to become your direct
competition. When an overseas developer becomes a licensed part of the
network, (he/she, or that company) must operate according to rules of the
network that prevent unfair competition. Since all products must be sold
through the network, whether foreign or domestic, your product and theirs
will be available for sale in the overseas markets on the same basis as
here.
For the overseas developer, the many advantages, (and low cost) of
being a part of the network make it very advantageous for them to cooperate
with the rest of us.
As our patents are extended into other countries, then market
protection will grow on the same legal basis as it is here.
(One should be aware that certain types of products may become subject
to U.S. export restrictions, which we will strictly obey.)
The point is, protection comes from cooperation and taking advantage
of the opportunities being made available through the network on an equal
basis with others. The economic advantage will be for licensed developers.
As photonic development proceeds, licenses will become more valuable. Thus
the early licensees will have the additional economic advantage of having
entered the network early.
So become a part of our Distributed Development and Sales Network
today. Fill out the license application that accompanies this document, and
send it in right away.
* PRODUCT EVALUATION
Potential products can be submitted for evaluation as follows:
1. The product must not be a duplicate of any previously accepted product
from another developer. See the Network Catalog for a description of
the products that have been accepted, and are available, or will soon
be available.
2. Any product that incorporate the developments of others may only be
submitted in cooperation with those other developers.
3. All products must be manufactured so as to guarantee that they work as
specified, be well documented, and properly packaged.
4. Developers must provide, or arrange for, tech-support for their
products.
5. There is no guarantee that a product will be accepted, but the current
guidelines for product acceptance will be available so that each new
product will dovetail into the growing body of photonic technology.
Products accepted for sale through the DD&SN will not be in direct
competition with each other. Similar products must be significantly
different so as to prevent unfair competition with other product
developers.
Developers will be encouraged (not required) to cooperate with each-
other so as to advance the technology as rapidly as possible. The DD&SN
will provide inside information to all licensed developers equally, and
with the greatest abundance possible.
Manufacturers who desire to manufacture products previously developed,
are encouraged to contact us. Most developers will likely be interested in
increasing production and sales, so we will help get the interested parties
together that, after manufacturers and developers have worked out an
agreement between them, the additional units may be included in network
sales.
R&D licenses provide for the manufacture of a limited number of items
for test marketing. When an item is accepted for sale through the network,
a manufacturers license will be issued. This is because licenses are site
dependent for the protection of everyone in the network. In most cases
where the developer is also the manufacturer, the manufacturer's license
will simply be a legal upgrade of the R&D license without an additional
fee.
Be first, be fair, be fast, and produce the best. Then the market
place, and not internal politics, will determine who earns the most money.
* RETAIL SALES
Our developers cooperate with our network to provide a wide range of
photonic transistor based products. Then these products are sold to retailers
through the network.
As with any sales business, the greatest amount of money to be earned
is in retail sales. The network is expected to produce a very large variety
of useful products from educational demonstration photonic transistor
devices, to software for developing photonic transistor products, to full
scale supercomputers, telephone switching systems, and other photonic
computing devices.
Anyone desiring to operate as a retailer of photonic products is
welcome to call the Center (406) 728-5951 (9-5 Mountain Time.) Arrangements
are being made for a wide variety of sales methods and outlets. Discounts
range from 30%-55% off the suggested retail price, depending on the sales
method/volume etc.
* EARLY PRODUCT SUGGESTIONS
1. Synthetic hologram development software that goes beyond the
capabilities offered by the initial development package.
2. Publications about the specific area of expertise, products, and
methods of individual developers for others doing R&D and assembling
photonic products.
3. Functioning photonic transistor components for educational, and R&D
purposes.
4. Basic photonic logic units in a standardized form that can be "wired"
together using optical fibers.
